1.6.09: DreamWorks Springs for Super Bowl and More

Monstersvsaliens DreamWorks Buys Super Bowl Spot
The economy is in the crapper, but DreamWorks is spending a lot of cash on an ad spot during the Super Bowl, as well as giving away 28,000 pairs of 3D glasses so folks at home can peep it in three glorious dimensions. DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg is sure that 3D is the future of film, and has spent "tens of millions of dollars" on this campaign, according to Variety. Scorsese Hearts Gomorra
Martin Scorsese is throwing his considerably weighty cred behind Cannes winner Gomorra. The possible Oscar contender will be sporting "Martin Scorsese Presents" at the beginning of the film when it opens in February. More at Hollywood Reporter.

Marketing Doctor Dr. Tantillo has railed against Super Bowl ads as a waste of money, on his blog and on Fox News - but even he thinks that the Dreamworks ad is a good idea:

"Dreamworks is doing a Super Bowl advertisement in a way that sets them apart from the pack.  They aren’t really running an ad as much as offering an event (their 3-D launch) within an event (the Super Bowl)."
