I think the best performance by an supporting actor is without a doubt the late great Heath ledger I think the movie would not have gross no where the amount it did without his great preformance as the joker. Heath will live on in or hearts and minds. He will be one who will be missed....

I think that WALL-E is such a fantastic accomplishment. It should definately win in the animation category as well as a sound award. Kate winslet also deserves an oscar for the reader, finally!

Thanks for the info, but I was also looking for Best Short Film Animated and Best Documentary Short.

Of all the nominees this year, Kate and Heath deserve most to win.
I still believe that "The Dark Knight" should have been nominated for best film. It's my best picture winner. .

Brad Pitt was great in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was a great show!! I hope he wins.

Why there's always have to be the same actors? It's not right. We always have to see the same faces, no opportunities for other actors and the same goes for magazines. Too much of the same. Other actors don't even have the chance because they don't get the good scripts. Enough of Jolie, Brad, etc.

of course Kate and Heath are going to win the best actor. 'Slumdog' also deserves an oscar. It was so touching and beautiful. A.R.rahman's music was absolutely awesome.

'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
will win most of them...

I think, above all other categories, that Mickey Rourke should win for The Wrestler. . . Have you seen that movie? Before you decide any other way, you REALLY should.

Let's just give every award to Slumdog Millionaire. What a joke. It was average and predictable at best. It's like the Academy said: "We only saw ONE foreign film this year, so IT gets the nomination." What about the french film "Tell No One," what about "Boy A," what about Mike Leigh's "Happy Go Lucky" what about the Italian crime epic "Gomorrah"?

There is a lot of varying opinions out there and it seems that each critic has their own choices. I just wanted to comment on the format that this article was presented in. Listing all the nominees and then bolding the predicted winner. Excellent format. Most of the other articles I've read are convoluted, obtuse and confusing. Thank you for being so straightforward and making your article so easy to understand.

I've seen all the films nominated for best picture, and although Slumdog is getting all the hype, and it was definately a worthy nomination, i don't agree that it was the best film. I think Milk and Benjamin Button were much better films with a lot more depth and emotion.

It is a crime that Cate Blanchett was not nominated for Best Actress or Supporting Actress because she was fantastic in Benjamin Button. Taraji was good in this role but was better in Hustle and Flow.
Posted by: Kitty | February 22, 2009 at 01:14 PM
Dark Knight and WALL-E should of been in best picture list not Reader or Curious Case. Dark Knight best pic, Sean Penn best actor, Kate Winslett for Rev. Road (not Reader) best actress and best acting performance of anyone Heath Ledger as the Joker. He should of got it for Brokeback in 2004 along with the movie as best pic but, the academy had their heads up their asses.
