03.6.08: Carrey and Reitman Want a Piece of 'Pierre'

Eternal Carrey Stealing Scenes n Reitman's Pierre, Pierre
Jim Carrey will star as a French nihilist who is charged with delivering a stolen painting from France to England in Pierre Pierre, a $13 million comedy directed by Juno helmer Jason Reitman. Fox Atomic won the right to distribute the picture. More at Variety.

Swayze Battles Cancer, Still Working
The Washington Post is reporting that the Dirty Dancing star’s doctor is “optimistic” and that The Beast, a pilot Swayze starred in, could become a series on A&E. He also has the film Powder Blue with Jessica Biel already in the can. More at the Washington Post. Swayze's character in Dirty Dancing is one of Premiere's 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time; check it out here.

Rogen on Mall Patrol
Knocked Up’s Seth Rogen will star as a mall security guard who runs up actual law enforcement in the comedy Observe and Report. Jody Hill, who directed the upcoming The Foot Fist Way, wrote and will direct the film for Warner Bros., though if the premise sounds familiar, Kevin James is currently working on a comedy called Mall Cop for Columbia, which is said to be far more family friendly. Beyonce Becomes Obsessed
Beyonce Knowles, the very busy Idris Elba and Ali Larter will star in the thriller Obsessed for Screen Gems. The film centers around Elba’s character, a businessman who has a trophy wife (Knowles) and the perfect life when he starts being stalked by a low-level office staffer. Knowles is executive producing the project wither her father Matthew. More at Variety.

Little-Known Rapper in Biggie Biopic
Jamal Woolard, a rapper from Brooklyn better known as Gravy, has been cast as the legendary Biggie Smalls (a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G.) in the Fox Searchlight biopic Notorious. The cast surrounding Woolard includes Derek Luke, who will play Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Angela Bassett, who will play Voletta Smalls, and Anthony Mackie, who will play Tupac Shakur. Besides his physical appearance, Woolard shares many parallels to the late rapper including a life of drug dealing before going into the music business. Baby Mama Giving Birth at Tribeca
Saturday Night Live veterans Tina Fey and Amy Poehler won’t have to leave home to premiere their latest film together – Baby Mama, the surrogate pregnancy comedy will open the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. More at IndieWire.
