03.14.08: Fincher Plays 'Heavy Metal', Charlize Mouths Off

David Fincher will spearhead and direct one of the segments of an animated film inspired by the 70s sci-fi fantasy magazine Heavy Metal, which was rife with erotic, violent storylines and imagery and introduced the world to the works of Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison and H.R. Giger. The film will be made up of eight or nine segments, each with a different director. Besides Fincher, they'll include Kevin Eastman, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and current owner-publisher of Heavy Metal, and Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the animation. The other directors are still to be announced. More at Variety

Gugino Climbs Witch Mountain
Carla Gugino will star opposite Dwayne Johnson in Race To Witch Mountain, Disney’s remake of its 1975 tween thriller Escape To Witch Mountain, about a pair of psychic siblings trying to escape the clutches of nasty military men and save humanity from destruction. The busy Gugino, who recently wrapped her role as Sally Jupiter/Silk Spectre in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, has also grabbed a starring role opposite Robert De Niro in the thriller Righteous Kill. Gellar Decides To Die
Sarah Michelle Gellar is close to signing a deal to star in the indie drama Veronika Decides To Die, about a severely depressed women who rediscovers her will to live after learning she only has days left following an aborted suicide attempt. Emily Young (Kiss Of Life) is set to direct the adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s novel. More at Variety
