03.11.08: Ledger's Last Film Resumes Shoot, Ratner Eyes Up 'Harbinger'

Terry Gilliam has picked up the reins again on The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus in Vancouver, where Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law are stepping in for the late Heath Ledger to complete the bluescreen portions of the film. Ledger had already wrapped on the live-action parts of Gilliam’s fantasia, with Depp, Farrell and Law playing physically transformed versions of his character when he passes through a magic mirror into parallel worlds of the imagination. “I am grateful to Johnny, Colin and Jude for coming onboard,” said Gilliam, “and to everyone else who has made it possible for us to finish the film. I am delighted that Heath’s brilliant performance can be shared with the world.” More at The Hollywood Reporter

Ratner Eyes Harbinger
Looking for another superhero franchise after X-Men: The Last Stand, Brett Ratner is circling Valiant Comics' series Harbinger, which Paramount wants to morph into a live-action feature. Harbinger became a smash in the '90s, and follows the adventures of the titular humans who have powers that can be unlocked by “omega” harbingers. “The movie is in the vein of a young Blade Runner, as this 17-year-old gifted kid helps other kids tap into these parts of their brains,” says producer Alexandra Milchan. Sacrilege For Doomsday Director
Neil Marshall, the British director of Doomsday, next plans to write and direct Sacrilege, a horror film set in the Old West that Marshall describes as “Unforgiven by way of H.P. Lovecraft”. “It is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party,” the director said. “It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie.” More at Variety
