02.22.08: Weaving Joins 'Wolfman', 'Where The Wild Things Are' In Danger

Hugoweaving Hugo Weaving will track Benicio Del Toro’s titular beast in The Wolfman. The onetime Agent Smith will play the detective assigned to solve the hirsute monster mystery in Joe Johnston's update of the Universal horror classic. More at Variety

Wolverine Adds Monaghan
Dominic Monaghan is the latest addition to X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s mutant cast list. The Lost star has been hired as Barnell, a character from Wolvie’s military past with the ability to harness energy and electricity. More at The Hollywood Reporter

Emmerich’s 2012 Lands at Sony
The studio bidding war for Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic spec script 2012 has been won by Sony. Picking up where he left off with global-disaster epic The Day After Tomorrow, Emmerich’s script pinpoints 2012 as the year the world is supposed to end and is no doubt packed with effects-crammed mayhem. Indeed, the budget is expected to settle in the $200 million range, frightening off some studios but not Sony. More at Variety

Verbinksi Gets Animated
Pirates Of The Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is linking up with The Departed producer Graham King and screenwriter John Logan for a big-budget animated feature with franchise potential. Verbinski is already developing the idea and sees an opportunity to “move the medium forward… I truly believe that we can break free of the traditional mold and create a new style that is all our own.” You go, Gore!
