10.22.07: Wahlberg Joins 'Lovely Bones' but 'Superman' Scribes Jump Ship
Man of Steal searching for man with pen, 30 Days of Night slays weekend box office, and Deschanel joins Carrey in Yes Man

Lovely Bones Casting Shake-up
Mark Wahlberg replaced Ryan Gosling in the Peter Jackson-directed drama The Lovely Bones one day before shooting began. Wahlberg plays a grieving father in the adaptation of Alice Sebold's novel that follows a young girl who watches over her family and her killer from heaven. Gosling exited due to creative differences. More at Variety.
Superman Scribes Walk
Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, the writing duo behind Superman Returns, will not return for a Superman sequel. Warner Bros. is now searching for fresh scribes while duo pursues more directing work. Director Brian Singer and Brandon Routh will return. More at Variety.
Night Captivates Box Office
Vampy thriller 30 Days of Night easily won this weekend's box office with $16 million but holdover flicks took the next three spots leaving little room for new entrants. Why Did I Get Married scored second, The Game Plan hit at third, and Michael Clayton held strong at four. Ben Affleck's Gone Baby Gone and sports spoof The Comebacks are both claiming the fifth spot but that dispute won't be settled until Monday when full box office receipts come in. We Own the Night, Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D, and Rendition round out the top ten. More at Variety.com.
Deschanel Gets Her Man
Zooey Deschanel is joining Jim Carrey in the comedy Yes Man. Deschanel stars as the romantic interest to Carrey's Danny Wallace. Man, based on Wallace's memoir, follows a guy who says yes to anything that comes he way in hopes of changing his life. More at The Hollywood Reporter.
