Mega sequel set for summer ’09
Transformers 2 has booked June 29, 2009, as the date it smashes all box office competition. Steven Spielberg, an executive producer on this summer’s blockbuster, is expected to be involved in the Paramount and DreamWorks venture as are director Michael Bay and star Shia LaBeouf. More at Variety.
Scorsese readies Harrison docu
Martin Scorsese will direct a George Harrison documentary chronicling the Beatle’s career, Eastern spiritual pursuits and latter life. His widow Olivia, who is also producing, will supply materials from Harrison’s personal archives while Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are expected to participate in the multi-year unnamed undertaking. Redford goes Against all Enemies
Robert Redford has signed on to direct Against All Enemies. Pic, based on Richard A. Clarke’s best-selling memoir, details how the current White House administration handled al-Qaeda threats before and after 9/11. More at The Hollywood Reporter.
Elfman wedded to Wives
Jenna Elfman joins Tim Allen, Elisha Cuthbert, Andie MacDowell and S. Epatha Merkerson in Howard Michael Gould’s indie The Six Wives of Henry Lefay, already shooting in Connecticut. Elfman plays Allen’s uppity second (and fourth) ex-wife who competes with his current spouse, unmarried daughter (Cuthbert) and other ex-wives for a chunk of his small-town fortune after they presume him dead. MacDowell, Paz Vega, Kelli Garner and Merkerson fill the other contriving wife roles. More at The Hollywood Reporter.
Reeves gets wait listed
Keanu Reeves starrer The Day the Earth Stood Still has been pushed back to December 12, 2008, from its original May 9, 2008, release date. The 20th Century Fox sci-fi remake had been scheduled directly against Speed Racer in an already crowded month featuring Indiana Jones and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
