8.11.07: Rush Hour 3's opening $19.1M is slower than 2

Chris_tucker3Rush Hour 3 made an estimated $19.1 million on Friday, paving the way for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker’s latest adventure top open between $54 to $57 million this weekend, good enough for the top spot, but won't rival Rush Hour 2's $67.4 million opening weekend in 2001. Last week’s number one, The Bourne Ultimatum stepped down to number two, but held firmly with $10.4 million and will likely take in another $30 to $32 million and has crossed the $100 million mark in less than two weeks of release. The Simpsons Movie followed in third with $3.6 million while the star-studded fantasy Stardust, which had been predicted not to do well, exceeded Paramount’s worst nightmares since the $70 million film took in $3 million and is on course to open with less than $10 million over the weekend. Disney’s Underdog rounded out the top five with $2.3 million ($20 million overall). The weekend’s other new release, Daddy Day Camp tanked with $1.35 million Friday, putting its gross at $2.8 million since opening on Wednesday.
