7.29.07: 10 Fun Facts From Comic Con

Sometimes fans can ask the best questions at Comic Con, other times, they really don't. Here's a mix of interesting tidbits picked up during the question and answer sessions of this year's panels.

Spiderman110. Sam Raimi's favorite ice cream is Pistachio. During the panel for 30 Days of Night, which the Spider-Man director produced, a female fan couldn't come up with a question to ask since all she wanted to say was that she went to the same summer camp as Raimi did. So she asked what his favorite ice cream flavor was, to which Raimi replied, "my wife doesn't even ask me what I want for dinner." In case you were wondering, the film's star Josh Hartnett likes Rocky Road best.

9. Watchmen author Alan Moore hasn't completely had it with Hollywood. The notoriously reclusive comic book legend, who has demanded to have his name taken off of adaptation of his works such as V for Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, will lend his voice to an upcoming episode of The Simpsons where Springfield's Comic Book Guy gets some competition from a rival geek voiced by Jack Black. Art Spiegelman and Ghost World's Daniel Clowes will cameo alongside Moore in the episode.

8. Fanboys star Kristen Bell is an obsessive Detroit Red Wings fan. Although Bell didn't give fans what they wanted when she was asked what she's obsessed with, she did admit to a love of hockey and of her hometown Red Wings.

7. Christopher Walken likes to pretend it's his birthday all the time. We're taking this one with a large grain of salt, but Balls of Fury co-writer Thomas Lennon told the Comic Con audience that on three separate occasions, Walken would go to Ralphs to pick up a birthday cake before coming on set and place it in the makeup trailer to gain sympathy from fellow cast and crew. Although we're pretty sure Lennon was joking, we know Balls co-star Dan Fogler does a mean impression of Walken.

6. Seth Rogen's favorite film is You've Got Mail — depending on the day. Some days, it's Sleepless in Seattle. Actually, we're pretty sure this was a joke too, but one fan asked the question during the Superbad panel.

5. Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis is one of the good guys. After New Line set up a not-so-secret screening of the Clive Owen run and gun actioner, Davis greeted the fans who couldn't get into the screening at San Diego's Pacific Gaslamp and talked to them as the studio set up a second screening.

4. The Chronicles of Narnia will go the Harry Potter route — one a year for the next six years. This wasn't so amusing, but the two second delay between Prince Caspian director Andrew Adamson, who was beamed in via live feed from New Zealand to speak at the Saturday panel, proved to be slightly amusing. The third installment, Voyage of the Dawn Treader starts production in January 2008.

3. Mel Brooks and Buck Henry will appear in cameos in the update of Get Smart, the show they created during the 1960s. One hopes they will be funny cameos considering star Steve Carell wasn't expecting a laugh when he said he saw the film as a Bourne Supremacy with comedy.

2. Joe Turkel totally made out with Rutger Hauer during Blade Runner. Hauer wasn't on the panel Saturday when a fan asked whether any of the cast that did appear to talk up the Final Cut of Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi masterpiece could remember any funny anecdotes during shooting. Of course, the five DVD set will likely have a few, but Turkel said that while he couldn't explain it, he kissed Hauer with an open mouth during a scene between Turkel's replicant producer Eldon Tyrell and his creation Roy Batty (Hauer). Turkel was so pleased with the anecdote, he clapped after the panel moved on.

1. Who would win in a fight between Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson? "I would," said Joel Silver, without much hesitation when one fan asked which actor would be victorious if heroes of Silver's productions, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, went at it.
